I have just fitted a LH cable on my 2001 freelander and it seems to be very tight and alot shorter than the old RH one. I Had to fully adjust at the back of the handbrake to get cable on but now the RH isnt doing anything. Is this the wrong cable or is there something I have done?

There is a big difference in the cables - particularly the price - for the 2001 models.

You have to buy according to the VIN No. rather than the Year

My 2000 TD4 takes cables that are normally listed for 2001 onwards,
if I ask for them as a 2000, I get the wrong ones - It's VIn No. 1Axxxxxx onwards

mine is a 2001 and also 1axxxxxxxxxx the handbrake cable was bought for a 2001-2006 model and was £30 ish. when I layed the old one and the new one together the black part with clips were the same but once fitted the cable seems atleast an 30-50mm shorter. So im still lost if it is right one or not??:(

yes it is, but the spring on the end of the cable inside drum is compressed alot more than other side. If that means anything??

You probably need a RH cable as well

I seem to remember that I had to back mine off a helluva long way to put the new cables on
