Hi guys!

When I was changing the radius arm bushes today, I noticed that there was a build up of oil ans dirt on the axle casong around the hub end. Having a closer look it appears that the half shaft seal could be weeping. How many hours am I looking at to change it? And would it be worth doing the ball joints at the same time?

Cheers

Dave

Sas its best to get that done sharpish it can damage the wheel bearings if the oil gets past , as for the ball joints see my signature ,
Couple or hours :) have fun

The half shaft goes through the seal and the wheel bearing hub if the lip of the seal give up oil from the diff goes past the seal and into the wheel bearing that hold grease not oil if the oil gets in its like watering down the grease, also can put oil over the disks and pads if really bad the one seal has an iner surface shaft and an outer surface casting .

Apart from the fact that the hub bearings are sealed units and oil can't get into them. How is the oil seeping from the front half shaft oil seal going to jump past the CV joint to get near the wheel bearings? You are a veritable mine of misinformation.

Of course I was thinking of the rears even tho the bearings are sealed with age seals will let oil In my mistake :)

I forgot to say when you fit the new seal check the drive shaft has no rust onit as this damages the seal lip clean if nessary
