So the tratter boys were kind to me & let a freelander play out with the "real Land Rovers"

With 2 awesome spotters pointing the right lines to this newbie I finally managed this:

Awesome day out, great people, couldnt have asked for more for my 1st time out 'laning! Thanks guys (I know you slum it in the freelander section ocasionally)

Decided to drive up to Pigeon Tower Rivington today, short run but had a couple of rock climbs / steps. Dont think my clutch enjoyed it, I did though!

That was daddy Matt, he knows Pajero's inside out apparently. I did feel safer meeting somebody that looked like you from the distance if you squinted, guardian angels in camo!

I see you're running the new grabbers, how do they perform :)?

Cant recommend them enough. Slightly noisier on the road but still handles the same as road tyres on tarmac, great on dry stuff like in the vids, struggle a little when up to my axles in wet peat but thats to be expected with a close tread profile.

Finally, at 4:30 watch a friendly Yorkshireman (I've heard him described as a veteran recently) pull my "soft roader" from balancing on the back wheels to getting drive from the front (about 4ft up)

All in all the North Yorkshire Laners are an awesome group of people; good laughs, a lot of knowledge & patience with the newbies & very friendly.

Last time but thanks guys (you know who you are) for getting me hooked, allowing a freelander along with you & planning a route for us all to enjoy!

Looks good but .............

Last week i was driving up some similar road and had an awful smell in the car which i thought was coming from the clutch.............impossible to climb a road like that without letting the clutch drag
The smell really was like cooked brakes / clutch - a bit ammonia-ish and the clutch was pretty rough following this.
Also i found that the bottom of the car spent most of the time ploughing the track - have some nice damage to the subframe and wishbone mounts underneath

did you have this problem ?
Could it be the VCU making the smell ?

thanks for your experiences

I had similar smell with mine when going up a steep climb Sarn Helen near Neath, I put it down to the brakes/TC whilst buring my right foot!! never had any issues since and 10 mins later when cooled down smell went.

as for ploughing the track and damage to sub frame, that can only be put down to the driver. Choosing the right tyre route for a limited vehicle like a freelander is essential, along with some good spotters to assist, these can pretty much go anywhere. It doesnt wear 35" boots and therefore requires a skillfull drive, hence no body/underside damage.
