Got the software, made the cable, won't unlock . . .

Classic LSE '93. It's had a soft fault for about 18 months, never been too much of a prob as it goes down overnight (due to a slightly leaky spring - now replaced) and it would always just go up to standard height whatever you did with the buttons.
I've been rebuilding the engine (when time allows) for the past 3 months.
Engine now all back together and running pretty well.

BUT after the rebuild the EAS won't do anything. Had the diagnostics professionally read (on it's bumpstops) and he couldn't get electronic access to the ECU to clear the faults as it was right down. I've jumpered the plug as described on rangerovers.net repairs pages and it is up to the about the proper height.

Now downloaded the the EAS unlock software and made the cable, got communication, got the FFs in the RX buffer, can control the pump, read heights etc. Reads faults and shows only one "1 : F8:2 hidden". F8=2, F9 =0, FA = 0, FB =0, FC =0. When I press 'unlock EAS' nothing happens.

Any ideas/suggestions?

TIA - Alastair

hi

I had the same problem with the sotware on my p38.
I was running it on windows 7 and i tried the process lots of times with no joy.

I then posted a query on here and someone told me there were issues with vista and windows 7 .

So i got the old lappy out which is XP and hey presto it worked first time.

Might as well cover all angles.

Good Luck

Tom

Thanks Tom but that's not the problem, it's XP pro on an ancient P3 dell. I've emailed Storey, hopefully he will reply soon.

You did of course make the serial cable for the Classic and not the P38 one? They are different.

Yup, RS232 with transistor and resistor. It communicates fine and most of the programme's functions work, but pressing 'unlock' doesn't seem to have any effect. The only fault code showing is the 'hidden' one mentioned, and I don't know/can't find out what it relates to or means.

Don't know a great deal about Classic. But it sounds like you have either an internal problem with ECU or a bad connection to it somewhere.
