Got a "Clunk" on full left lock

As above Got this "Clunk" .. & "Usually" a brief "Traction Control Failure" message (Although this goes out when I straighten up) also My P38 does Not like going round tight left corners & requires "More Gas" to "Push it" thru the corner (That make sense??)

I'm leaning towards the front OS CV joint or Wheel bearing. Thinking the Cluck is the CV "Bouncing" & the TC sensor going out of range during the "Bounce"

As always your input is greatly appreciated.......................

Sounds to me like the viscous coupling unit within the transfer box has seized. But then again you just mention it doing it when turning to the left, what about if you turn to the right ?

If I turn sharp right I don't get a clunk but it "Resists" going right or left (On Full lock) & I have to "Give it a bit of gas" to "Push it thru"

The Clunk is deffo front OS I don't think its the VC as it "locks up" nicely at 50 ish & I have no other issues

Sounds very much like the viscous coupling has solidified. It acts as a "Diff" but supplies grip when a front wheel is losing traction it is fitted as a replacement of the Diff Lock lever fitted to earlier Rangies and Disco's.....gave it a new name "Traction Control".
Good test is to find an empty(ish) tarmac surfaced car park and drive the car on full lock slowly, if one of the wheels appears to be scrubbing this indicates that the viscous coupling has seized. Things appear to be normal however when the car is driven in a relatively straight line because both front wheel revolutions are relatively the same.

OH TITS!!!. It does EXACTLY THAT when I turn into my drive .....

Somebody tell me WTF this is gonna cost me ..... (& please make it quick while I'm sitting down!!!!!)

me uncle got a viscous unit from craddocks auction at the end of the billing show about 8years ago and it cost him £40 brand new and in a landrover box

to you from ashcroft it'll cost........

£295 for the unit

or

£464 for it fitted

yeah i went throught something like this a few months back, i investigsted the whole thing, luckily i didnt need the VC but still did the homework, best advice i found was buy a complete transfer bos from someone on ebay that doesent know that the VC attatched is worth money. i saw complete boxes going for £150 but keep your eyes peeled.

Just how turning left and getting a clunk could be related to the viscous coupling i do not know. Unless it is siezed solid. The viscous coupling adjusts traction from back to front. Differences in rotation side to side are adjusted by the planet wheels in the differential. I would say he has a wheel bearing or CV joint going home. Or maybe both. Easy to check jack up a front wheel you should be able to turn it with effort, if not viscous coupling is siezed. But it does sound like something else is also on its way out.

Thanks for the Info Tony ( & the phone chat!!) ....Yeah its deffo the VC seized spoke to STEVE (Not Andy!!) at crown ........ £323 delivered!! Will go fer that in the next few weeks (in the meantime I'll drop out the front prop & check for any more Clunks & bangs Ect )
