Bad news derv is up £1.17. Good news Tesco rapeseed oil £2.52 for 3 ltr. If you just chuck in 30 ltr and fill up with derv you save a tenner on a tank. Might give it a go next tank ,Last time I tried soya oil from Bookers it ran a bit rough and stalled so I got fed up and went back on derv.

I use the Tesco stuff, works great .. 'specially at 84p a litre ... ;)

What ratio do you run at this time of year. Ive heard some people add a bit of petrol to thin it a bit. Do you have any trouble buying large quantities from Tesco. I remember a few years ago it was 53p p/l and they started stopping people buying too much. Some were wearing false beards and sunglasses to disguise themselves from being recognised. :D

I run it normally at 1/3rd ish veg oil .. sometimes 1/2, sometimes pure diesel, depends where I am, what I'm doing! Never had any issues starting, even at -degrees .. When it's feck-off cold, and I have to leave at 5.30am, I get in, turn key on, turn off all electricals, fan, radio, whatever, run glow plugs through twice, clutch in, throttle floored and start up, works every time. Back off throttle almost immediately but hold it to above tickover ~12-1500 rpm for a few minutes and drive off as soon as possible ... it barely warms up at tickover! Obviously, clear snow/ice etc off screen & windows before starting up ... ;)

Reason I mentioned Tesco is 'cos they are available to all, Costco/Makro/Batleys et al you need to join ...

Try it without touching throttle as depressing the throttle switches off the cold start mechanism on the pump.

Just boot it after ya start her.

I used to use new cooking oil in my 300 Tdi Sometimes without mixing it and I used it mixed in my Mercedes E320 but now I have a 04 Td5 but only ever used normal diesel. I was told if I use cooking oil it will damage it and perish some seals could anyone let me know if this true...Thanks

Have done, takes about 5+ more turns of the starter to fire up!

On 'normal' mornings, like today when there's no hint of frost I don't touch throttle at all and it fires straight away. When it's been really cold, frosty, snowy, icy, whatever and I start it no throttle then it takes about 3 times as long to start, when I do it throttle floored it starts immediately!

hi i used veg oil for about 9 months in conjucton with a veg oil conversion my 300tdi ended up with gummed up piston rings and had to get the injection pump recond cost was about a grand a really good saving, be carefull.

either heat/thin to a similar viscosity as diesel or you will get issues with droplets and spraying bore =problems

What type of oil were ya using ? People used to say only use 100% rapeseed oil with no additives [anti-foaming agents] and no probs.Iwas thinking of something like 30 ltr oil with 40 ltr derv and 1ltr petrol just to thin it.I wont fill right up so it mixes up better. Also gives me chance to add more derv if it runs rough.
