Hi Folks
Can any body help,recent fault developed Disco 96 300tdi, first start up of the day glow plug timer indicator only stays on for about 1 sec no matter how many times ignition tried engine starts but sluggish ,new battery fitted 3wks ago,after driving for a few miles and restarting glow pulg timer ind stays on for correct time and engine starts on the button.

i very rarely need the heater plugs even in this weather!if i do use them the light stays on for about 10 secs. are you sure you dont have any airleaks causing bad starting.i would look at the return pipes on the injectors to make sure as these can rub on the engine cover and become holed very easily.

Return pipes etc all in good order,when I said engine was sluggish on starting I meant that it takes it a few turn overs before it starts, but when the glow plug timer is working ok it starts right away
 
Having exactly the same symptoms, I have changed pre heater relay, still the same. I am sure there is another relay in passenger footwell, you can here it click. That is going to be my next port of call.
