Glow Plug Light on 1.8

This Freelander has just been listed over here...

Its a 1999/2000 built car which shows as first registered in 2002 - this is not unusual, there are loads of "old" Freelanders that are registered as 2002 cars here - I've discussed this before on LZ.

However, it is a supposedly a 1.8 - and the VIN number tallies with this, but the 4th picture shows the glow plug light lit. What's going on there?

Its a cute price - $7K - that's £3.5K.

Doesn’t seem lit to me - just the blank space where the light should be, and some sunlight.

$850 for universal joint replacement! I don't think that glow plug lamp is lite either.

lol - yeh that's steep for a UJ, even higher in proportion to the price the guy is asking for the car and its real value.

Its interesting because the only UJs I believe are on the prop shafts and you don't really see threads on here of them going wrong, so you'd think it unlikely they'd need replacement. I went to look at a L Series a few years ago, it had lost 2 gears in the box and was generally a really tatty car - but the bloke had a receipt for high $s replacing a UJ on the prop shaft. I wonder if the garages are saying the UJs are naff - but then finding they need to replace the support bearings. Still a lot of money though.

Looking back over it, I agree with you guys that it isn't lit. The one to its right (looks like an overheating exhaust) doesn't even exist. Its not in the handbook.

The line Rare find in manual made me laugh. The 1.8K was only available in a manual, even in the Japanese market where the cat overheat light was functional.
I've never heard of prop UJs failing on the FL1. I just don't think they take much torque compared to things like the Defender.

Yes, I did think about putting a Q up on the auction saying that up until when that car was made, you could only get manual Freelanders - even if the Kiwi paperwork says its a 2002 car!

There are currently also a number of "Rare" 3 doors for sale around the country in various places!

Jap spec cars can cause you to look rather silly when someone asks about getting a key cut for their V6 on a Kiwi forum and you mention that the most difficult bit will probably be sourcing and programming a transponder. Just to find out Jap spec cars don't have them. A high proportion of V6 cars here are Jap imports.

Most garages here are probably used to fixing Jap switchable 2/4WD trucks. Clunks, rattles and whines in their transmission may be down to worn UJs, so when a Freelander diff mount or VCU support goes, I'm sure they would quite easily misdiagnose it.
