Hi,
A 'quick check' of the 3.5i V8 in a recently acquired Discovery I has turned into: a pile of cleaned parts; a pile of new parts; the block / pistons / crank left in the car.
Both head gaskets had been blowing exhaust gases and cooked the oil so I really want to get the block out and check/clean the oil galleries and circulation holes rather than risking buggering up a new cam, tappets, lifters, etc.,
Any suggestions for getting just the block out of the car? Is it best to temporarily re-fit the heads and use the pukka lifting points, use lots of straps round the block or (least preferable) take the pistons out and run suitably protected straps through the bores?
All thoughts gratefully received!
Thanks
Hugh
