right had a great idea buying a salvage wreck:D
borrowing 7.5 tonne truck with hiab to pick it up:D
anyone any advice on lifting it:confused:
i dont want to damage the chassis or do anymore damage to the bodywork
should i just put 6m strops under it an lift?
it are there recommended lifting points on it ?

seems i didnt think this trough as usual cant tow it as someone bought the wheels fore i gotr to it

surely the the chasis would be the lifting point? However you jack from the axles so lift from there too?But i know jack about lifting

choke the lifting strops around the wheels, you may dent the front wings a bit unless you have a lifting beam but its the safest way to lift it. remember to choke em under the axle not above it ;)
it aint got no wheels it sitting on railway sleeper
aint got a proper lifting beam but have an x frame fer tower crane at work wi adjustable chain lenght abot 1.2 meters between chains
could i use this an lift by axles them selves

It's easy look

yup, use the x beam and chains straight onto the axles, jobs a good un. railway sleepers arent as strong as folk like to think they are. why do you think the remover them from under the tracks?????
ive got a couple o 8ft h beams you think i could put them under chassis an lift with chains:confused: yella

never use timber as a beam to lift anythithere is no swl on timber and you are relying on the strength of the timber to hold your structure. you know the axles are fixed to the chassis so why not use them with your x beam. drop the timbers on the bed of your lorry to rest it on but DO NOT use them as a lifting device. just out of interest what size is the hiab on the lorry???

if the hiab is plated at 3.6t that means it will lift 3.6 tonnes at 1 metre. ie; when all the booms are in and with the dipper arm angled down to 1 metre from the main boom. it will only dio this on the main ram.get a close as you can to the vehicle with the lorry and remember to take your time and be steady.

am presuming the lorry also has some legs aswell?? 7.5 are usually only for lifting a tonne at length of beam on a wagon that small and there still prone to leaning over, just take you time and take into the fact of the weather i.e wind speed.

Just had my ex from Anglesey on the phone her hubby put the legs down on his 10tonner to offload 6 x 1tonne bags of gravel and the road collapsed underneath him and rolled his truck half way down a hill somewhere near churchbay!! Apparently he's the 3rd truck to roll there in the last 12 months and the property owners assured the builders merchants he works for, that it was safe to drive down. The hiabs wrecked but it stopped the truck from ending up at the bottom of the hill.
