I have no power just a Generator in my shed. I am in the process of rubbing down axles and other parts for priming and painting. My Generator is 3.5kv, Don't think it is powerful enough to run a compressor from it, but is there something smaller that I would get a way with for spraying the parts with primer and paint. ?? not bothered about running air tools just paint spraying.
Thanks

Check the rating plate on the compressor.... that'll tell you if the genny can handle it. Spraying doesn't consume as much air as most other air tools so you may be ok. Don't forget that you'll need an air dryer before the sprayer.

I thought maybe just a small compressor just strong enough to paint, Ill be only painting axles, radius arms ect so does not need to be a perfect finish. do they have dryers built in?, I aint got a Clue about ratings ect, will have to look in to it.

@gstuart did a nice thread about compressors in which a lot of folk contributed some great information - worth a search .... or the man himself ( having tagged him :D ) might know where it is :)

hi

this was the one i bought

then fitted a dryer / oiler and some isolating valves for the outlet hoses ,also included the link in post number 6 with a a lot of info

Why?
What paint would you use? Some is very nasty to inhale, so unless you have a proper mask, extractor, forced air thingy I would be very careful.
For axles, trailing/radius arms you can do a very good job with a brush. Honestly! :)

I Know Mate, just thinking to make things easier, Been watching to many videos here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUzhq7wizshOcST2Pl-mK7A Still deciding on paint.

Might make them quicker but probably work out more expensive having to buy compressor and spray guns ect, will see how it goes when I get to the painting stage. which brings me to my next. Post New Thread

Definitely more expensive and no faster!
Why don't you start a re-build thread and post everything on the one thread? We love a re-build thread, but you've got to keep us interested with lots of pictures. Most of us can't process a lot of words all at once.

I would but I keep making mistakes as you will see on my next thread, then have to ask advice again to fix it, got loads of photos but dare not show most of them :D

We all make mistakes. Keep them together in one fred. Pictures paint a thousand words. I think Telly Savalas said that :D
EDIT Or, did he sing it :p

There's a handy article about matching the generator capacity to the appliance you want to use on the SGS website https://www.sgs-engineering.com/help-advice/which-generator-should-i-order/
With items with an inductive load, such as motors and transformers, these tend to draw quite a high current when first switched on, until the back EMF gets going. So SGS recommend a much higher powered generator than the wattage of the appliance. I think they're being a bit generous in recommending a factor of 3, but I've certainly had generators 'stumble' or even stall completely when switching a motor on, so it clearly puts a bit of strain on them.
