Just replaced the Pirelli Scorpions with a set of Grabber AT2s from General Tyre. Went up from the 55 to the 60 profile.

Have to say, well impressed. I expected some road noise given their aggressive tread profile, but cruising at 50-70mph absolutely nothing. I even think the roll is a bit reduced, as these things have reinforced side walls.

It does look like the speedo is reading about 5mph over at 60 though... need to do the calcs...

On my P38 I changed 4 Pirelli Scorpions for General Grabbers last year. First set of replacement tyres from new - even then the old ones were still legal from the tread depth viewpoint (50k miles) but changed them because there were a lot of small radial cracks which were frowned upon at the MOT and at nearly 10 years old they were way beyond recommended life. I liked the look of the AT2's as well and they did get good reports for road noise on the net but - I was suprprised to find that the supplier was reluctant to sell me them because of the speed rating. I eventually went for the UHP (still General Grabbers) because they had the Speed Rating as recommended by Land Rover. I have no complants at all with these either on the road or pulling caravan over very muddy fields recently. I don't do any green laning or anything though. Can't remember what the speed rating is for the AT2's but I read somwhere at the time that Insurance companies did not like cars with tyres with a lower speed rating than manufacturers recommendation and there had been cases where they turned down claims because of it. Just looked but can't find the reference again but there is something about it here Speed Rating. Anyway, not trying to be clever with this, just pointing it out for info.

Cheers, Rob

It's a fair point. I will prob give em a call just for peace of mind. If they give me any trouble then I've just shot £500...

I use Admiral (multicar) and when I reported the EAS conversion (HD coil springs) and the A-bar, they adjusted the premium by £14.

This is very interesting... I was planning to fit AT2's to my 18 inch rims but then a mate lent me his set of 19" rangie sport alloys fitted with Goodyear MT/R tyres for an offroad weekend at bruntingthorpe, and there was a 90 there with AT2's fitted and he couldn't get round where my P38 just walked it, so now I might get a set... And this rubbish about p38s being no good for wading! Mine was chugging through water over its headlamps with no snorkel, no probs!
