General Grabber TR

As an alternative that's pretty much the same, fit Continental Cross Contact AT.

As fitted by Land Rover to later Defenders.
l replaced my Grabbers with these and they are similar, and seem to last about 50,000 miles.

Thank you, I will look into those as an alternative, I have seen grabbers online but wondered if anyone had used any of the suppliers and they could recommend one.
I have done 40,000 miles on these original grabbers and there is at least 50% tread still on them and road noise is okay with them so really happy with them.
Thank you for your reply.

I have ordered 4 General grabber tr 235/85/16 LR tyres online from "Tyres outlet" at £109.90 each, which I think is a bit of a bargain.

Cancelled my order with Tyre outlet as they wanted me to pay via bank transfer rather than paypal, have now ordered from "4Site 4x4 tyres" a bit more expensive but delivered to my local tyre fitter and I pay when fitted. The price includes fitting and balancing, which I would have had to pay for if I ordered from Tyre outlet, so not a big difference in price overall. And more convenient.

what was wrong with bank transfer ? the lack of protection you get with credit cards ?

Paypal is my preferred online payment method, I do not do online banking and have a separate bank account linked to my paypal account which I only keep a minimum amount of money in, so if anyone did scam my account I would not have too much in there and Paypal has safeguards anyway.
When I originally placed the order with Tyre outlet it gave Paypal as a payment option but after placing the order instead of giving this option they asked for a bank transfer. They do not have a linked paypal account but you can do a money transfer into their account before tyres are sent, I prefer to deal with linked paypal accounts. The new order is far safer, pay the tyre fitter when tyres are fitted and they send money to the supplier. And I could also get tyres fitted next day, (no extra cost) I am getting mine fitted friday as I will be busy tomorrow. I can also see the tyres first before fitting and if not the correct ones I do not have to mess about with return postage.

Tyres fitted today no drama, just a big hole in my bank balance, but I cant complain as original tyres were 13 years old and still had at least 50% tread left on them, just got too long in the tooth. Having had them fitted I decided to clean the wheels and give my landy its yearly wash, noticed that my boost alloy wheels had suffered some disimular metal corrosion where the old style balancing weights had been fitted, now have new type strip weights on inside of wheel.
Amazing how much moss and green algae grows in your landy nooks and crannies and seams in a year (I must clean it more often). After a couple of hours it looks great again.

Good call on the bank transfer - a definite red flag. Either its a complete scam and once the transfer is cashed you have no comeback as its probably gone outside the UK or its a legit business but has cash flow troubles and is failing paypal credit checks and paypal have stopped their account. Either one is a no-no.

Sorry this is an old thread: somehow ended up back on here after I looked at it to get a website address to post a reply to another thread
