just test drove a TD 5 T reg with 91000 on the clock and the gearstick feels like a spanner in a bucket of stones. it moves all over the place and is difficult to find 3rd. the seller says it is the gearbox linkage and is an easy problem to fix. is this right or could it be the start of a big gearbox problem.. any suggestions gratefully accepted please..thanks

could be a couple of things. Either the plate that holds the lever in the central position is broken or, inside the gearbox where the remote fits in there is a ball in a plastic cup, these somtimes break up

both are an easy fix and you shouldnt need to remove the gearbox to do either, but if this guy is trying to sell this thing to you, HE should get it sorted and not fob you off woth bull**** in case the gearbox is nackered, i doubt it though, from what you have described it does seem to be what i have said but get him to do it before you buy.
