Gear crunching

Hi everyone,my Series 3 have a problem when selecting 2nd gear it selects it fine but feel as if it goes past 2nd and then crunches,almost as if it catches on another gear,is there a stopper of some kind that I can check?have reconned my series 2 gearbox so know a little,but hope someone have a easy solution for this?please!

There is a spring gate that you encounter when moving the gear lever left, this is to help you avoid hit reverse when looking for first. It could be that the spring is a little weak or the gate needs adjusting.

Take out the tunnel over the gearbox and remove the gear lever and you will see the spring hinge like thing on the top of the gearbox on the right hand side.

Thanks for the reply Andy!the crunching happens when 2nd gear is already selected it selects fine,but the gearlever can move more backwards,then it crunches!?

ther are 2 springs 1 either side of the gear lever, all these do is stop you from engaging reverse while going forward, if you remove the casing on top of the box you will probably find the stop bolt as come loose and to reset it select 2nd gear and then adjust the bolt if you send me your email address i will send a pic of it, regards jim
