Hi I have a new to me LR4 auto but in the last few weeks I have noticed that when i pull away it hesitates in the changing up to the next gears has any body go any clues that might be causing the problem as I'm due to go away in a few weeks and will be towing caravan so I some peace of mind that it won't go wrong while towing

Hi I took your advice and enquired at my local LR garage and he is not sure. but if it needs to be changed he said it is just not a straight forward job because of the sealed gearbox and the cost is about £ 400 plus.

No gearbox is sealed for life. Its just a way for manufacturers to make a vehicle appear cheaper to maintain for fleet or high mileage buyers.

In truth is not changing fluids massively shortens the life of the components it's supposed to be lubricating.
So in effect the gearbox is "filled for life", but it's life is now reduced to the length of time the fluid is able to keep the gearbox functioning correctly.

Best advice is have gearbox and all other transmission fluids changed at 60k mile intervals, or the components themselves simply don't give an acceptable service life.

£400 for a complete fluid and filter change is about the going rate. I paid £420 for a flush, filter change and steel pan conversion on my D3 last year.

Dont have to worry about it for another 50k miles and it will save problems in the long run.
