Opinions please think my fuse box in the engine compartment is fooked now question is it worth buying a second hand one or not coud be 100 quid cheaper but is it a fools errand?

Personally I would not waste money on a secondhand unit. It will likely be as old as yours and getting ready to fail! Better to attempt to repair yours. Have a look at rangerovers.net I think there is an article of fuse box repair.

Well stripped the fuse box down and relay 7 was burned out but also the main power in once i was in there had corroded joints and this in turn had corroded/melted the distribution cable out - presumably to the other fuse box I think the majority of the problem has been caused by fumes/spillage from the battery at some time and there has been some serious burning so think the only route will be a replacement as it will take too long to patch and repair and then there is the integrity of the repair so Island 4x4 here i come (again )

also make sure your pollen filters are renewed , when they get clogged up this makes it alot harder for the fans to pull air through them which in turn require more current which heats up the wiring ,relay and fusebox
i have seen this problem on a number of p38s :):)

I stripped back and repaired the box overnight there were loads of problems 20 plus connections cracked also odd spots of burning here and there so the conclusion is always buy new as 90% of these faults were not visible or detectable without opening the board up which in itself is a 2-3 hr job by the time you put it back together again.
