Simple quation - does anybody know where the breather pipe for the fuel tank comes out/its route?

Problem - everytime i take the filler cap off there is a huge 'expolosion' of air comming out of the tank - guess its not helping the fuel return pipe, and is also at quite a good risk of blowing up with me sitting ontop of it (some would say a good thing) - the pressure is huge - forcing my hand a good couple of feet away from the filler when i release it, and causing me to have problems removing the filler cap sometimes:flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame: :flame:

Might be that yer cap could do with a clean out...

Thanks - slightly different setup as tank under my seat not under the rear tub, but will have a go at cleaning the cap out

Will have a look after some lunch (running a bit late) - Thanks - Hopefully nobody will nick the fuel while the cap is missing

sounds like my 90's set up. The breather pipe on mine is above the filler pipe at the rear of the tank, then goes through the tub onto the filler cap arrangement. I had very same problem on my rangie, a good sealing cap and blocked breather pipe meant, my tank became a vacuume and would suck each time i took the cap off, and i would have performance issues when going a long distance, fuel was getting sucked back so id have to stop open cap and off we go again:p
annoying if i forgot and left the vehicle, it sucked the fuel back and i'd have to bleed it up before i could go anywhere! Also it sucked a dent in on the tank and played havoc with the fuel reading!
I had a real nightmare trying to clean the breather pipe, but i found a VW cap left @ the forecourt and it fitted never had problem again:D
You could also drill a small hole in the cap if removing pipe is an arse and cant get 2 the breather, but that is not ideal just very temp:p
Good luck!

could of claimed it was a security device get a discount on the insurance:D

Never got around to looking tody will try and do so tomorrow, may well be causing the probs i have of reduced power from time to time. interestingly mine is not causing a vacume its presurising the tank - and a lot......... I'm just worried as fuel under pressure in the heat i (I guess) asking for trouble, let alone preventing the fuel retun pipe from doing its job, and prob causing over fueling and th injectors to leak?????

ooh dear, get a spare cap that fits and drill hole in it for a temp fix. you know itll take ages to get round to fixing it ;) you can also gaurentee it wont be easy and you will DEFINITELY get some dirt in your eye!..lol..:D
