Hi,

I fitted a new rear fuel tank to my series 3 LWB at the weekend.
The new tank was almost identical to the tank I removed except for one extra pipe protruding from the top. I connected the breather pipe, balance pipes and electronic sender unit but the new tank also had an extra smaller metal 'L' shaped pipe next to the sender unit. I have left this as it is and not covered it or connected it to anything. Is this okay to leave as it is or should I be plugging it or something. The vehicle is running okay after priming the fuel pump.

Regards Mark

If I were you, I'd cover it. I assume it is for a diesel return pipe from the engine. I carried out the same job on an old 109 a couple of years ago, but the return was detachable on that one, and a blanking plate was also supplied. Your tank may be different. Attach a small piece of fuel pipe to it, and block it off with a small bolt and jubilee clip.
