Fuel starvation (possibly)

Hi good evening I have just joined.
I have a Freelander TD4 ES.
This has probably been discussed before but I have two issues. The first being what appears to be fuel starvation which happens at any time the second is a roaring sound from a waste pipe under the near side front wheel arch on initial start up especially when cold.
Please help !!!

probably a Fuel Burning Heater doing its' thing ..
look in the engine bay to check if you've one installed

fuel starvation :
what are the symptoms ? ( describe )
as it could be a number of things
like low pressure pump / fuel filter / maf sensor / fuel rail sensor / turbo actuator .. etc

It does not appear to be a webasto or Eberspacher heater although does sound like one. When the engine is warm the sound disappears.
The fuel issue can happen at any time and without warning I may be wrong but that's what it feels like.

don't know what other waste pipe there might be in that location
( i've no fbh on mine .. so going by what i've read on-site )

roaring sound wouldn't be an AC fan ??
i.e. with demist fan on it activates the AC if one is installed
( i've never heard the fans on mine .. not a clue how noisy or not they might be

only other roaring sound ( i can think of offhand ) might be a leaking intercooler hose ..
but that's usualy apparent when the turbo kicks in ..

leaking vacuum hose connected to the egr unit ???? .. maybe ? ..
if the egr isn't working properly .. it Might cause odd driving symptoms ( at a guess )
i.e. assuming the egr hasn't yet been bypassed or deleted ..

if the apparent 'fuel starvation' symptoms is not that ..

check and clean the fuel-rail sensor plug contacts .. they corrode from water ingress ..
may as well check all the injector harness plugs for same .. just in case ..
( running problems Could point to a faulty injector )

if the fuel filter hasn't been changed at 60k mile intervals .. look to change it ..
could be the low pressure fuel pump is on the way out ..
although i think with low-pressure occurences a dash light should illuminate
and motor can be difficult to start .. at worse it cuts out and dies altogether mid journey
( low-pressure pump can go faulty as early as 50k miles .. so sayeth google searches ..
( the electric motor contacts wear .. and the unit cannot be taken apart for repair

am not sure of what early warning symptoms might be ..
apart from warnings of low-pressure failure via the dash lights ..
or crap starting .. or motor cutting out .. or an excessively noisy pump
or no sound at all if it quits ..

check for possible leaks around the high-pressure pump .. maybe a seal is going ..

have a read thru this .. see if anything fits :

what year / what mileage is your td4?
have you owned it long .. do you know its' service history .. ?
any engine modifications been done to it ?
