Hello, does anyone know if the fuel lift pump can be prone to faults? As my DSE seems to become increasingly harder to start when the fuel gets below half a tank. Or is the fuel gauge faulty?
Gary

Check the lift pump for function. See the "How To" section. Check the clear pipe for air, check the spill pipes for leaks. If the lift pump is duff you will notice lack of power on hills. If the lift pump is not working and there is air in the clear pipe the injection pump could be sucking it past the O'rings in the fuel filter top. Where the pipes go in and out.

Hello Datatek, is it in the tank like a Rover SD1? Also is there another high pressure one on the engine, or is there a suction pump in the injection pump. Is there an actual injection pump or is the engine a common rail diesel ? I haven't actually had a good look round the old girl yet. I went to see if I could grab a Haynes manual the from Halford ' s the other day, but they didn't even list one. Which I thought was strange considering the amount there are about!

Lift pump is in the tank. Drop the tank for access or cut the floor using Canyons how to. Tank drop is better as you can check the brake lines for corrosion at the same time.
There is an electronically controlled FIP, no suction pump but it will pull fuel through to some extent.
No need for a Haynes manual, the full LR workshop manual is available to download for free, look in the "How to" section at Wammers EAS post.

Is it a BMW P38 diesel or a l322 diesel as the latter is a common rail
