fuel pump regulator test Freelander 1 td4 2003

does anybody know if there is a way to test whether the fuel pump regulator works as i have cleaned up one of my injectors and when i try to start it up it but it doesn't. then after a series of test i find out that there is no high pressure but there is low pressure. so i buy a repair kit for the fuel pump regulator but after i fit it still no high pressure. i then take the fuel pump regulator out and see if when i turn on the ignition if that moves but it doesn't. does anyone else have any suggestions of whats wrong. because the next thing i am going to do is to replace the fuel pump regulator. another thing is that when i look on eBay at a new fuel pump regulator the 2001 is different to the one I've in my 2003 Freelander. are they supposed to be the same as i think that my one might not be genuine or that mine is from a different vehicle.

When you say there is no pressure, how do you know this?

If its from diagnostics, its just as likely to be the sensor or its loom connector that's faulty.
 
The 2001 model you looked at may have been for the Di L series diesel engine, instead of your TD4 M47 engine. Just a possibility.
There is no 2001 model L Series and pretty sure it does not have a regulator as such in its pump its more of an electro mechanical adjustment of flow as it does not build pressure in a rail.
 
Almost certainly right, GrumpyGel, I just knew that the engine changed around 2000 to 2001, and have almost bought a few L Series parts myself before luckily spotting my impending mistake. The other likely reasons of a different look to the pump regulator are a design update or a pattern part instead of OEM original.

the plug on my fuel pump regulator for electricial wires are on the side so that it faces downwards instead of like the photo here

I think you have had a copy part. All the ones I see on eBay have the connector straight out of the back, the first I saw with a right-angle connector was a Mercedes specification part. I'll try to remember to check mine on the car in the morning.
 
here is some more information about the when the ignition is on we are getting a reading from the fuel rail sensor of 0.5 volts but when we crank over the engine it only goes up to 0.55 volts
