Having trawled through various threads about fuel leaks on TD5's I thought the leak on mine might be the fuel lines chaffing through on the chassis.

I had the same symptons that others had posted with fuel splattered over the rear underside of the car and up on to the rear screen at motorway speeds.

After jacking the car up and supporting it on an axle stand I cleaned the underside of the offside rear wheel arch with degreaser and a thorough squirt with the hose pipe.

Once it had dried I started the engine and peered around with an inspection lamp; it looked as if the leak was coming from the top of the fuel filter rather than the fuel lines.

As a fuel filter was a lot cheaper and easier to fix than a set of replacment fuel lines I trotted off to the motor factors to get a new one.

Half an hour later I'd replaced the filter and no leak. Result!
