Hello everybody. I'm Chris and about a yer and a half ago i got me a X reg freelander 1.8 60kmiles ...big mistake...however after hundreds of pounds spent on it i now see thai it gives me around 22 mpg.Is that right? should i do somethingabout it?...and to make matters wors iesterday when i reached home from work i parked in front of my house stoped the engine and i could rear something spinnig and roumbeling like it was stil doing something yet the engine was off.....how about that. please help me out somehow. i live in hertfortshire do any of you know a cheaper yet good place to have it looked at
Thanks

that spinning noise is actually the flux capacitor cooling down, its a bit of a problem on these freelanders but is a cheap fix. What happens is the capacitance changes, it should be around 1.21 gigawatts. I would reccomend taking it to a local garage and asking him to check that your flux capacitor is running at 1.21 gigawatts at 88mph.

Alternatively maybe its a centrifugal oil filter spinning down.
Good noise. Let's you know it was spiining away while you were driving.

Ahh yeah I forgot they had one of those Uncle CharlesY.

Might be worth getting a garage to test the capacitor though as I've heard they can be a problem!

Hi chris, got me a 2000 flandy 1.8 and the consumption isn't great either but better than 22mpg.
What I would do is service it with new plugs, leads and air filter as well as fuel filters. Give it an oil change with a good engine flush and then put a decent injector cleaner through it. After that you should be getting back to 30mpg's which is where it should be!
I've used this stuff loads and it was recomended by a mechanic.

Fuel Injector Engine Cleaner | Reduce CO2 Emissions | Engine Flush

Good luck and I hope it works out. Not sure about the noise unless you have a fuel burning heater under the bonnet, which is unlikely!
