Hi my fuel consumption has recently plumeted from 38-39 to about 34mpg:eek:, I notice I can here my tank fuel pump working harded click click click - also the fuel burning heater has been very active. I assume the engine will run a bit richer in the cold and also the FBH will consume a bit....... does this sound about right for a TD4:confused:

sounds bloody good to me. The ticking noise is just the fuel pump and is due to the cold weather making the fuel slightly thicker imo. I am getting 33mpg in my 2001 td4 auto

The click, click, click is the separate small fuel pump that feeds the fbh which uses approx 250ml of diesel per hour, I was told by a LR mechanician.

Can't find that in any Webasto fbh spec sheet though - but I would reckon that's about right. :)

Hmm 250ml aint much I may have used around 1.5 to 2Ls - but thats nothing ..... bust be the relatively short journeys and very cold weather. I am i must point out using synergy2 on position 10!!!! with the enrichment boost on...... I know if I switch the enrichment off it chears the mpg up a bit .............

Short journeys in the cold will kill the mpg, mine is suffering as well as the drive to work is really hilly but only 4 miles. The fbh runs the whole time.

Ah! - That's the Jeremy Clarkson setting isn't it? :)

I'm on setting 8 and with a dash switch I can select the eco setting for the motorways and revert to power mode for the 'fun' bits, without touching the Synergy box itself, or even getting out of my seat or turning off the engine - very handy it is.

my last tankful only got me 270 miles!!! 5 miles to work at 5am and 5 mile crawl in traffic to get home don't help much though!! i was gonna pull the fuse for the fbh buy hey its only money and it was bloody cold last week!! might hold off putting my synergy on though :(

Heater control set to windscreen = aircon constantly on which makes fuel consumption plummet. Come springtime it'll go back up when you move your heater back to vents.

if i remember correctly the aircon does not switch on when it is 5 centigrade or under on any car, regardless of switch position,:)
