Hi All,

I have just bought a 02 freelander commercial, my first EVER :D:D:D four wheel drive vehicle !!!! Its tatty but mechanically sound. The front seats are shagged and i am looking at replacing them i.e. ebay. I have browsed the forum and before i replace them do i need to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes to stop the air bag going off. Or is it a straight forward 4 bolts and out ?

All help appreciated

Kev

2 bolts at the front, 2 at the rear. Torx bits. Have a look under the deat to check if you have electrics - disconnect plugs before removing seat.

Seat belt sensor. Seat belt pretensioner. Heated seats if fitted! If you wanna do it properly. Disconnect battery, leave ten mins, unplug every thing, remove seat, fit, plug in, reconnect battery, check for warning lights!
Do not play with pretensioners. They are dangerous when not fitted to the car properly!

Hi JOLOPY,

I've just put a leather interior in mine and didn't disconnect the battery on my mates advice and we had no problems. I've also got the old cloth interior in my hut which i'll be throwing out, you're welcome to it. It's in really good condition, just a slight one inch tear in the drivers seat, easily repaired. It's black/grey in colour, you can have it for nothing

Cheers, craw

Hi Craw,

Really appreciate that but I have just done a deal for 2 no. Seats, glass sunroofs and a missing jack on the bay ? The seat job does look easy enough without disconnecting battery though.

It is! That's how I do it, just don't turn on the ignition with the seats unplugged or you'll put faults in the airbag system! The proper way is how manufacturers recomend doing it!
