Found another issue today whilst replacing a wheel cylinder. The front prop shaft is moving up and down a tad at its expansion joint.

Appy bleedin days....................:(

Not surprised its vibrating a bit at speed.

Never had to replace one before. Any recommendation on suppliers or manufacturers apart from the blue box brigade.

I've spotted the hole in yer story :p

All 4 cylinder front props are the same I reckon so you can't go far wrong.

Worth gettin'em to chuck in a 9/16" prop tool anorl unless ya really like lying under yer Landy fer extended periods.

If ya int got fwhs lift a front wheel and pop the transfer box in and out of nuetral to get the yokes where you've got best access and when yer putting it back on seat it on the transfer box bolts before bolting up the diff end.

Mine has bellows half way down it. Where does the one in the pic expand and can you fit a cover to keep the crap out.

At speed refers to anything above 25mph :p

Make sure you fit it the right way round, mine was on back to front. The bellows are cheap - about £3 and easy to slip on before you fit it if they are not already on the new one. But, they seem to last about 6 months before they fall appart. I now fit new bellows before each MOT (but from now on that could be never!)

The one in the pic is not a proper series shaft.
Bearmach supply the one you are looking for.
It looks like it expands behind the right hand UJ. No way to get bellows on there.
Its not an urgent job. I need brakes first. Going over the tops for my new cylinder was enough.

That props shaft (same one I bought) has a wiper boot at the sliding joint instead of the traditional type boot. Saves removing to refit a new boot every couple of years! Fits perfectly too.

I have freewheeling hubs also there is a school of thought that the sliding joint wears more as the propshaft is not rotating.

Bobstickle...if you have FWHs and they are out most of the time...the worn front prop shaft is not of much consequence...it cant make and noise as its not turning.
Now if you did lots of 4x4 work and its badly worn I would think about buying a new one.

I use 4 wheel about once a week. Well actually twice in one week then nowt for a week. I also make sure I have a regular blast in 4WD to get the sawdust moving.
Its on mi adventures I switch the FWHs to 4 so I can slip in and out at will. Usually when out shooting for the day.
Like I say it's not urgent but another thing that will have to be done.

The rubber boots are made from real vampire leather; you know how vampires go when they are exposed to sunlight. My first new hi/lo lever boot fell apart in a matter of weeks. When I fitted the second one, (Britpart), years later, I greased it inside with a thick coat of ordinary yellow grease and I rubbed silicone grease on the outside. It's been on more than 2 years now, looks ok.

"It's a good idea to engage the FWH every now and then anyway to lubricate the top pin"

To true...I try and remember to lock mine once a month on my trip home from work...I like to work it from lock to lock after a few miles to put some lube over the chrome balls.
