Should the front bumper on a 1989 Landrover 90 pickup be painted black or left with the silver galvanised bumper?

How is the best way to clean old paint off without damaging the galvanised bumper?

alkali based cleaner/degreaser is good to use. But if it's coated in zinc, alkali and acid and will react to the cleaner you're using.

I used brake fluid for the tub cappings followed by a wire wheel in mi drill. Came up a treat.
