hi all. anyone know the law on fitting aftermarket bull bars these days? i had a nice one on my nissan and want to fit one to my f.l 1 but not sure on the law as the ones ive seen advertised from companies include a disclaimer so not sure where i would stand. i wouldnt mind a chrome set i can chuck a big set of spots on would be good. cheers. oh and if anyone has a spare front speaker im looking for one also i need the tailgate handle. cheers again.

You could just stick'em on and then claim innocence and say they were there when you bought the car....

I did with a RRCL a couple of years ago....bought a bull bar for 20 notes on the 'bay and bolted it on....never got stopped or questioned nor failed an MOT...but I was ready with my excuse of, it was like it when i bought it.

Had a chrome one on my freelander
It makes the car look great
Not sure on the law but if your car was manufacturered while bull bars where still legal to fit to your car then your still allowed to fit them. Your just not aloud to fit bull bars to new vehicles that where made after the law change date
I'm sure someone on here can point you in the right direction

I've got one on me V8 109 but it's from the 70's so no ones gonna question the bugger

And they probably wont once its doubled in size as it looks like an old farm truck with all the dents in it

cheers hippo i thought it was a year of manufacture thing but wasnt sure. some of the ones ive sen on flea bay would really suit the f. l.

hi I have one which is a replacement from the insurance company so there.
my previous one has a little dent in it and the fittings missing i keep meaning to put it on the wifes fl1 hope this helps

cheers ted. will have a look for a nice one on flea bay. also has anyone tried sanding the plastic bits on their f.ls to leave a good finish to paint. theres a pic on here of a bright yellow one and its colour coded all over and mines black and i have a compressor and a D.A so thinking i might have a go at colour coding mine but it will need to be totally smooth for the paint to take properly. i have heard of a paint that goes on really thick and should leave a smooth gloss finish but not sure where to get it and whether my paint gun will be able to cope with such a thick mix.

The law seems pretty lenient on A bar type bullbars. Although there are still alot of rules and regulations on them. I think the easiest way is to buy from legit companies and make sure there isnt a disclaimer like 'for offroad use only'.

From what i can tell the law is only strict on the use of 'full wrap around A bars' . I'm pretty sure if you order one from JLR, you have to order it from their international accessories brochure, not their UK one. Atleast thats my experience with Discovery 3 front bars.

Mine was an OEM landrover one for the freelander and I would recommend these
I prefer proper OEM gear. The chrome ones are best but they also do a black one
