I recently renovated front axle inc. new TRW wheel cylinders and decent shoes , it has twin leading shoes on 11” recent drums , over the last few weeks it’s developed a pull to left that can lock the front near side wheel, I thought problem was with off side, spent half a day checking drivers side , adjusting , bleeding, cleaning shoes but still pulling to left this afternoon I removed passenger side and you could see the difference in wear at each end of both shoes, compared with the driver side shoes , I filed a chamfer about 10mm long on the leading edges Next to pistons taking off about 1mm reassembled and adjusted and to my absolute surprise stopped quick in straight line .. Time for beer

No just square edged, £33 genuine ones from PA Blanchard, mot due next month , so I’ll get it through that and then do the other wheels

Interesting. I've just rebuilt the front suspension and in the process noticed severe corrosion at the crossover between the flexi hose and the fixed pipe to the wheel cyclinder. Latest trend a MOT test is corroded brake joints. My front ones are done, I'll keep you posted. MOT on Wednesday .

I ended up changing all my brake lines and hoses. While most of the lines were ok there were a few places where they were badly corroded and often in places that were hard to see. On any old vehicle I would now do a full brake line replacement as a matter of course, its a pain but better done in one go and then you know the condition of the whole system. The best bit of kit was an in-situe flaring tool, meant I could run the line, then flare it without having to take it off again, saved a lot of time.

only ever used mintex shoes which have always come with a chamfer on them, haven't had to fit any for around 3 years so I assume that they still do.
