Having just bought a 2001 reg ES-X It appears that the VIS? valves are noisy. Sounds like tappet noise from the V6 lump.
Can anyone enlighten me on what this is, what it is likely to cost and is it a do-it-yourself sort of job or is it a main dealer fix (Ouch!).

Do a search, but i think its your inlet manifold needs changing and possibly a software upgrade to the ECU to cure the problem.

The manifold from the V6 Rover 75 fits i believe and is much easier and cheaper to source.

You could fit the manifold yourself its a bit fiddly but pretty straight forward, use new manifold gaskets as well as they perish(rubber),then get the ecm reprogrammed to stop vis valves bouncing inside the manifold and causing the same problems again, tiga

I am 99% sure it is the inlet manifold, been there done that just before we did the strip the heads down trick like some guy in Singapore did. Cost him a mint and did not fix anything which is why we waited for a while and the answer finally arrived at the dealer.

All OK now - except for the other Freelander problems that we are slowly getting done as and when the credit card can cope.

it does sound like inlet manifold as changed mine about a month ago new part from landrover is about £450.00 + vat £20.00 more from rover but i got mine from a parts web site, with delivery it cost me £158.00 fitted it then booked it into landrover for an A151 Recall (which is FREE) as this stopes it happening again, the rattle is the butterfly valves inside manifold, was told by l/r that they stick and brake but will not fall out or into anything and the manifold is unrepairable, only problem i had was when i put in landrover details for a part search it came back none available so i put in rover 75 2001 4 door salon V6 petrol, and it came back with one in about 3 mins as the rover 75 and the freelander both use the same engine which is called KV6 engine, when my new part came it still had all the electronic bits still on it so keeped all off mine for spares well you never know all i needed from l/r was the three O rings that the manifold sits on and they cost me £10.00 + vat tock me about 40 mins to fit only fiddleley bit was two 8 mill bolts at rear but used a mirror ( wifes makeup mirror was not to pleased ) to see and that made life a little easear if you need web address for part e-mail me on [email protected] and i will reply to you with any info you need to do job all you need to do job is an 8mm socket and a screew driver.

do any of ur vehicles pull codes or if ur vehicles stalling it could be the butterfly valve in ur intake. this makes the computer freak and it literally shuts ur engine off (kinda retarded)

deffo go for a rover 75 version - its the same, but cheaper . Before yu do that tho, check with yo stealer if the recall mods have been carried out - if not - make sure they are done before you change the vis valves. Yu mite also just get away with the motors.
