I have read the Haynes manual for the replacement of the clutch master cylinder which is telling me to remove the air cleaner assembly, camshaft cover intake manifold and the fuel injectors just to do the cylinder
this seems really strange to me, can anyone tell me if this is the case or if it is an easier job than what Haynes is telling me?
I have done plenty of work on rovers- 200 and 400 series and learnt the haynes sometimes tells you unnessesary actions but this just seems like an awful lot of work for a clutch master cylinder and cant understand why all the steps outlined would be nessesary.
The freelander I will be working on is a TD4 2004 plate. Its my mates and i am repaying a favour.

Thank you for any support you can provide.

There is an wierd shaped plastic expansion chamber that you can remove to make access a bit easier. Thats all i would remove.

Unclip the pedal (dont let it hit you in the face).
Twist the master cylinder and remove from bulkhead.
Push the 2ends of quick release together whilst pushing in the white plastic inner bit.
Lets go and let them seperate.
Refit is a reverse of the above.

Bleed.

Thank you for your reply Vissie. I will follow your steps and hopefully get the vehicle sorted alot quicker than I would if were to remove the air cleaner assembly, the camshaft cover, the intake manifold and the fuel injectors as Haynes advises!

Thanks to all the helpful threads in the forum I have almost manged to replace my master cylinder on my 06 TD4. Although popping the rod-end from the clutch pedal was simple enough, putting the new one back on seems impossible as the gap is too narrow to squeeze it on. The air duct is in the way. Am I missing something? Dont want to damage the basket trying to force it..... hoping there is a simple answer which doesnt involve removing the fascia and steering wheel. Many thanks for any assistance
