Freelander starting problem

Hi there I'm new on this site and hope someone can help I have a Freelander 1.8 petrol 3 dor hardtop convert and I love her lots, she has a little problem though when she has been stood out in the rain she won't start she will turn over but not fire up after half hour she splutters in to action then will start again all day once dried out. I have no garage to put her in. Please help x x

Have you got the spark plug cover on the top of the engine? These can go missing by dodgy mechanics and help moisture get near the plugs. Otherwise the plugs themselves may be near the end of their life. Would also be worth checking dizzy cap, rotor arm and HT leads.

A spray around of some WD40 or GT85 may solve the solution short term but moisture is getting in somewhere.

Thanks for that, when and if the rain stops here I will check those things out, then once more can I go out in the rain and not just when its sunny.

No problem, also a quick spray of GT85 or WD40 around the injector loom might be worthwhile. Maybe even take off the plugs and give them a clean. Definitely sounds electrical.

I have a similar problem but just spray WD40 around the coil and everything is OK. Got a new coil coming next week so hopefully this will cure it

Thanks for the tips didn't have to spray any WD40 today was sunny and she fired up first time of asking oh the joys of owning a freelander

Hi Eddzak -further to freebiker coments - looks to me you have two extra options, the first you have a hair line crack in the distributor cap, this will allow water vapaour and inhibiit starting when wet, the second is you ht leads are breaking down, although this will also show up as a slight miss fire.
When it's dry try covering the cap with a light covering of WD40 and place a bag over the cap, if it starts after raining you kow to replace the cap.
