Freelander Propshaft Assembly

RE: Freelander 1.8k Petrol

I removed my propshaft and fitted a new Damper on the CV joint as the one I had was nearly falling off. I replaced the support bearings at the same time with all NEW parts.

I replaced my prop and took it for a drive. I noticed a really hard vibration throughout the whole car. I reviewed what I had done and thought I had the coupling joints wrong so I changed them to be at 90 degrees to each other. This improved the vibration but it is still there heavily at 60mph

Does anyone have a diagram on the propshaft assembly so I can see if I have done anything wrong?

Can't see much I could get wrong, but obviosuly there is an issue somewhere.

I think your trying to say that you have changed the damper on the VCU! yeh?

I'm led to believe that the damper serves no purpose what so ever on the VCU and it's far better off without one, only thing that I can think of is that you have not put the right one on or it's not on straight.

alignment is important so is balancing . . . . .you do it to ya tires

Yeah, its a contencious point. Some people say its important other say it makes no difference.

I'll check the alignment, though It went straight back on no fuss so can'y see how it could be out of align

Does say in manual to mark prop so that bolts go back in same holes and is aligned as before removal. You can try turning prop on IRd plate by 90 deg and see if makes any difference if you didn't. Prop bearings can also be adjusted slightly. Release the torque from the bearing brackets (they have elongated holes) and check not under tension. (I assume they are fitted square to the prop).
