freelander one sunroof

have just got a freelander 1 td4 03 reg and the tilt and slide sunroof doesnt slide
when i press the button, it tilts and then the motor starts clicking as if it is stuck
told the guy i bought it off and he said it is not supposed to slide, only tilt, as there is nowhere in the roof for the sunroof to slide into. when i look, i can see what he means, but it doesn't make sense to me. any ideas?

can't help as i've the roof panels ..
but .. have been plenty of posts re. sunroof issues ..
( try a 'search' .. top right of page .. within the relevant forum )

slides back on the outside(topside) sounds like the cog wheel to the cables is worn down
