Unable to sync the spare key fob

I have key and fob, replaced battery with known good new one and then when close to car pressed the button more than five times. Still wont unlock car or allow the car to be started if door opened with key.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong ?

Any help would be much appreciated..

Thanks

Has it been left for a while? may need keyfob reprogramming, it doesnt take long for fob to loose its memory. Look for a decent Locksmith (Noy a key cutting/cobler type place) and speak to them. a new fob should be about £70 inc. programming.

Thanks for your replies

The car is new to us and I dont know the history of the fob except the battery was flat when we collected the car.

If I use the other fob to open the door both keys will start the car, but the fob with the new battery will not open or close the doors at all.

I have replaced the battery again and retried but the faulty fob will still not work.

Can the dealers check the rf signal or do they just supply a new fob ?

Any one know how the dealers program the fob to the car ?

My rangie can be done with a series of left and right turns followed by placing the key in the ignition and pressing a button

Thanks for your help so far

think it needs test book, but you can resynch the fob to the car by pressing the unlock button 5 times in quick succession, not sure what you have to do to make that work, whether the ignition has to be on, or the car has to be unlocked or summit.

I didn't dream this, it's in the owners manual.

Thanks for you help.

Had to visit garage in the end for him set set it up, took him about 15 mins and he set up and checked 3 fobs I had and set them all up for the price of one.

Good man
