freelander ird removal

Hi
does anyone have experience of removing the ird from a freelander. My hubby is removing mine at the moment and it appears to have water pipes???? going into it? two questions really first one is why would it have water in there? second one is will he have any obvious problems he needs to look out for?

its to cool the oil. . . . .um its a heavy ole job
 
As ming says above.

Keeps the ird and engine at the same temp. Stops the metal expanding at different rates, due to heat.
 
There's a link to the rave cd in my signature if you need it. But only tell him after the 2nd day of fun!
 
Wow guys thanks for the response. he has got a nice shiny haynes manual coming tomorrow so it will be fine. my asking stupid questions does his head in though so i thought id ask on here. by the way the popcorns on me :pop2::pop2::pop2::pop2:
 
It is easy to screw things up real bad by going at it with the spanners without FIRST referring to the manual and checking out such good forums as this.

As an example - more than one TD4/KV6 Autobox has been ruined by removing the wrong bolt thinking it is the filler plug. That's a £1500 bit of pride to swallow.


Us chaps are allegedly really good at stopping to ask directions as well :crazy_driver:
