hi guys

i just bought a freelander cheap 2001 on a y plate td4 total cost of car £150 mmmmm :D
problems with it were clutch, rear box and front disks and pads i have purchased all these and proceeded to strip gearbox to change clutch grrr

i have managed to split the gearbox from engine but the gear selector prevents me from taking the damn thing out. anyone know how to get it off the rave manual shows me a totally different picture mine has two large counter weights on the top. now i realise why the garage quoted me £1600 but will keep plodding along.

any helpful tips would be greatful.

i have just downloaded the rave 2001 > and found the pin that requires removal more damn specialist tools. you would think they have made it hard enough already. bottom bolt behind ird is a biatch uni joint and extension sorted it. now just need to drift the damn pin out. so close but so far away:doh: 2 days working on it total of 12 hours so far.

If its the same pin as on mine a 4"round wire nail with the point cut off will drive the pin out.It looks like your saying you didn't remove the ird,I didn't think that was possible.

getrag gearbox with t piece gear selector. too counter weights on the ends prevent me dropping the box. The IRD is still in place just undid top bolt on the bottom of supension arm levered forward with full lock on. IRD slid across with drive shaft still in it. and clears the gearbox completely. just the damn gear selector stuck against the chassis:mad:

been trying with a modified drift still solid. i begrudge spending £119 on a tool that will be used once if anyone can find cheaper roll pin removers it would be much appreciated.
