following on from my noisy droning freelander post my friend has been out and has told me the diff has gone. He reckons its going to be a 1000 pound job.

its an x reg diesel with 97k miles. lot of other niggly problems with window regulators etc etc......

I dont know much about cars let alone what a diff means but to be honest I think its time to get shut of it!

Comments or advice would be very welcome!!

thanks!

hi,

I'm based in york.

at first i thought it was tyre noise but its got louder and is a more droning type of sound. more prevalent if you coast or when changing gear.

i use it for towing a horse trailer and yesterday (before we knew what was going on!) the noise was ten times worse and the rear end felt very strange and was actually making the trailer feel unstable - very scary experience.

I've pumped so much money into it its starting to get me down. Ive had new cam belt, new fly wheel, new clutch, new slave cylinder the list goes on......... I hardly thought there would be much left to go wrong with it!

Changed both cv joints and rear diff yesterday in around 2 1/2 hours. Second hand diff cost me £100. Cv joints cost £40 the pair. £1000 seems a tad to much. Either that or im in the wrong job ;)
