Brian is right, many insurers will do windscreen and not effect NCB. Depends on your excess - if an Indy glass person will do it for 120 and you are happy, and your excess is 150 it won’t be worth it, although insurers work will be guaranteed
Phone around and ask for quotes, this shows them you are shopping not just buying off 1st supplier. Gives them incentive to give good price
