looking to buy freelander 2007 , it’s got 2.2 Diesel engine ,any ideas on mpg ,and any common faults, any advise is welcome.

check that the heldex as been serviced and when also the pressure return power steering pipe can corrode, resulting in a pinhole nightmare fix, I know just did mine. Ask when the belts were last changed with water pump & tensioners, make sure all tyres are the same make & same tread with about the same mil left on them, also ask if the extra earth strap as been fitted, if not fit one as soon as you purchase it.

Haven't heard the earth straps story, where is it fitted and why?
Nice to have even tyres but I think that is more for the fl1 with the viscous drive the fl2 is effectively a front wheel drive with the electronic haldex clutch engaging when needed bringing all wheel drive into play.

28-31 mpg

Or 32 to 37 if you bypass the EGR and use premium fuel.

Listen for any metallic clunks coming from underneath indicating drop links and/or anti-roll bar bushes are shot.

On your test drive make sure every transmission mode works as it should.

driving across Spain last summer about 37-40 mpg on very cheap fuel.
as soon as I got back local runs on supermarket fuel 26-28 mpg
Cold weather in January 22-24 mpg
but I didn't buy it as an economy car and I do love driving it
