Freelander 2 Transmission

At 3 weeks old my manual Freelander 2 has developed transmission snatch (propellor shaft wind up?) when changing from 1st to 2nd gear. The dealer says there is no fault but it was not there at new nor on the demonstrator before purchase. Any ideas please?

Go back the the dealer and stand you ground. He must have a demo vehicle you can drive to prove your point.
It's not up to you to tell him what is wrong, just that something is wrong.

The usual explanation is excess play in the propshaft, although that's also pretty noisy. The manual gearbox can also be pretty reluctant (mine hates 2nd gear for some reason) but LR have yet to recognise that - or anything else much - as an 'official' fault. But as yer man says, stand your ground with the dealer: if something's changed, you know it has and you know that it shouldn't have done so. The dealer doesn't.

At 3 weeks old - I think you are still covered by the Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002 - not fit for purpose or not of satisfactory quality - take it back and say it is unfit for purpose and you want it fixed FOC within *** days or your money back.

The obligations to provide goods of satisfactory quality are more or less the same as those stipulated under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (see BIF 142 A Guide to the Sale of Goods Act 1979). The Regulations also require traders to provide remedies where goods are not of satisfactory quality.

The effect of the Regulations is to create an automatic presumption, in favour of the consumer, that any defect in a product manifesting itself within six months is 'inherent'. This means that the defect was present at the time of sale. The burden of proof is on the trader to prove otherwise. The Regulations also provide a time limit of six years (five years in Scotland), during which period any claims for compensation may be submitted to a court.

I agree with MHM, take it back, leave it right outside the main entrance door until something is done about it.

peeps on here know my thoughts on the FL2, heads should roll in the LR design team, esp the team leader.

There was someone on here who had to get the whole transmission replaced with less than 10k

Early FL1 owners complained about transmission probs from the outset. They were told 'they all do that Sir!' by the dealers.
It took them 4yrs before they changed the trans on the FL1 with the new ratio in the IRD.

If there is one thing worse than a petrol FL1 (I own one) that's all models of the FL2.
I can't help thinking.................what have LR bolloxed up this time?
