Hi, am new to your forum and cant seem to find anywhere else to post this thread, so please move to the right place if needed.

I have no knowledge whatsoever about car engines, electrics etc.

Ok, heres my problem. I have a Freelander 2, 2.2, SD4. 2011. It was purchased when 3 months old as an ex demonstrator. No problems at all until just after the first service, which was done at a Ford dealership (land rover approved). Then started to experience what I call a judder/splutter/cough with the engine. Only intermittently. Took it back to the garage, it did not fault on the test drive, but the mechanic said its probably the fuel filter, they are £200, not covered under warranty so dont bother replacing it. Knowing nothing about cars, i did as i was told. At the second service, done at a land rover dealership, i mentioned the intermittent fault again, did not fault on test drive again. Fuel filter was replaced as standard on this service and guess what, it was £35 not £200!! (you probably all know that!!!) At this second service an oil leak was also fixed, something to do with the clutch and gearbox. So I carry on with my intermittent splutter for almost another year, it got more intermittent and i'm thinking, hang on my warranty is up soon! So off we go again to a different dealership and ring Land Rover customer services and get them involved as well. Warranty has now expired, i have purchased an extended warranty and Land Rover have assured me that they will resolve this problem under the original warranty. Car is now in the garage for the 6th time in probably 4 months. We have had a new cooling element in the EGR valve?, software updates, air re-map and a couple of visits where nothing is done because it wouldnt fault. Land Rover technical department have been involved. The car is still there now, since the 11th August when i had to give permission for the technician to take it home every night to try and experience the fault (even though i have it in writing that they experienced it on a previous visit). The technician experienced it twice, so was going to take a portable computer with him to plug in next time it faulted, and guess what, it hasnt done it again!! No fault codes have ever come up regarding this and i am now being told there is a hesitation problem on some freelanders and a new softward 'fix' is being worked on at the moment. Not sure if its a coincidence, but after an hour and a half journey last time i drove it, i heard a buzzing noise from the rear drivers side, which i assume is the fuel pump. Mentioned this to the garage, but obviously no codes came up regarding the fuel pump. To add to the mystery, the car has never spluttered/coughed/juddered when towing our caravan??

Any ideas would be very welcome.
Thank you.

when you plug in a trailer plug, i am fairly sure it alters the power characteristics of the engine, i had a sd4 auto, which always had a bit of hesitation pulling away, but never in sport mode or when towing,

Hi, thanks for your tips and advice. The update is that we have only just got the car back. The latest part fitted was a new turbo! Car is still faulting the same. Land Rover have now confirmed that they cannot do anything else, so we are waiting for a price for ours and a contribution towards a new one. Am pretty certain I will be out of pocket on this!!! I did read the thread link and am amazed how many others have experienced this problem. Surely they should be able to resolve this.

I am experiencing the very same thing and have now reached the point where Land Rover say they don't have a fix for it (2012 150bhp TD4). I am also waiting for a contribution to trade me out of it. I would love to know what success you had with that one so I know what I might reasonably expect.

Thank in advance.

John.

Any updates on this?

Mine has now been gone for around 6 weeks, with the new SD4 performing just fine.

Does anyone know if LR have come up with a fix yet? Has the OP managed to get traded out of theirs yet?

I had a similar problem but only when hot and ambient about 18 deg.
I couldn't get it fixed so outed it. For my sins I bought a new Freelander 2 2013 mod.
No problems with this one, except for a noisy transmission in 4th gear.
