Hi All.
I have a Freelander 2 diesel which I purchased new in 2011.
at the ripe age of 3 years, 3 months, I had the ' traction reduced' and 'special programs turned off' warning light come on. Each time I started the car, it would be OK and then after a few miles the warning returned. This only happened for 2 days and then it was ok until earlier this year. Since it started playing up again, i have had strange rumbles, noises etc, uneven tire wear and at one time a screeching metal on metal noise.
I realise its the Haldex Unit causing these problems.
I have been offered 2 options by the local independent dealer, overhaul the Haldex pump (approx £600) or a new Haldex Gen 4 supplied and fitted at approx £2000.

Option 1, overhaul the Haldex pump in theory sounds fine but they say there is no guarantee it will solve the problem for more than a few days / weeks / months. Option 2, have a Gen 4 Haldex fitted, which is what I see as the most logical option, but having read up on this, It appears the Gen 4, if it goes wrong in the future, cannot be overhauled at all, whereas the Gen 3 can be overhauled.

Can anyone advice me of what they have or would do in this situation please.
Many thanks
Julie

Both generations of haldex can be fixed on FL2. Haldex 4 is betterer but they can still fail. The days/weeks/months thing is bull sh*t. What he's trying to say is it is not known how long they will last. If he knows what he's doing and buys regular from quality suppliers and his own work is good, then the repair should be betterer than garages who don't know what they're doing. A FL2 haldex needs the fluid changed every 20k miles and the filter changed every 40k miles. That's what time served FL2 owners like me do to reduce the chance/risk of failure.
