Bought a used freelander 2 2012 td4. After an hour of driving the car has started slightly rolling back and whole car jerks every time I accelerate after breaking at traffic lights. This doesn't seem to happen when in snow/mud mode but dont know for sure. Error codes are old and unrelated when plugging in OBD scanner. As the seller has blocked my number I'm thinking it might be a major problem. Any thoughts/experiences with this? Cheers

It usually is when you take it to a "specialist".

So is that from gearbox to wheel bearings?

My mechanic took it to be diagnosed. He just said the whole thing needs to be stripped and rebuilt £4,500 pound job. Thing is we got scammed by the seller and got a call from the police saying another guy was scammed out of a £3,000 deposit

Before you do that, have a word with the Bell engineering guys (link above). It presumably can't be much more than a Haldex and Diff replacement - nowhere near £4,500. If you bung in a front diff it still won't be anything like that.

If its the gearbox, I'm not sure if they can help you, but I'd contact them to find out. They are within a 1 hour drive from central Birmingham.

If you need a gearbox, you can pick them up for about £600 from these guys...

Thanks so much for this. The man I just spoke to said apparently what the other one said is bullocks and it just needs a new valve body and complete flush and drain. This is without even looking at it

Never surprises me to see garages taking the p*ss on the chance someone will hand over a lot of money to perform all sorts of work. Especially with gearboxes. It's the box control side of things that normally fails or worn clutches. A full recon auto and fitting would never be £4.5k.

Help the police as much as you can to get him screwed.
