Hello, would anyone have advice on whether the Freelander 2 would be a much smoother ride than my 2006 Freelander 1 HSE? My elderly mum is suffering from arthritis in her neck and now not managing car journeys, especially on B roads. Or would I need to look at a Discovery? Any help would be great thanks!

FL2 has a much improved ride, comfort and handling... over the older FL1. FL2 was a totally new vehicle when designed. Engines are quieter, smoother and nicer to drive.

But air suspension over springs is smoother again !
He's going to have to pick between range rover luxury (FL2) at reasonable price or much higher running costs and repair bills monthly (vehicles with hair suspension). ;)

I can't see an elderly Mum with "issues" clambering up into a Disco.
My better half struggles to get her bum into the Rangies seat on Motorway level setting.

Disco are air as well, so can be lowered for access, and better with a side step
Yes indeed, don't let me put you off. I don't like going down to "Access" as I have to pump the bloody thing up again and it wears bits out.
My 89YO MIL has clambered up into the Rangie. But we took a "step-stool" with us to help her.
