Hi All
I have been scouring the internet and it always brings me back to here, really useful forum with loads of great hints and tips. I have recently encountered a problem on my Freelander 1 TD4 2002 model where-by it wont start at all. I was given this vehicle and use it as a works vehicle, I have added a load of electrical modifications such as a leisure battery, 240V inverter, interior lights and even kitted out the back with a extendable platform and camped in the shetlands with it. It has run really well but occasionally it would just cut out and I couldn't start it. After various times of doing this I found (our of frustration) that if I gave the fuse and relay box a slight (nothing too hard) the engine would start. This made me lazy and I have never got around to looking into it. I have had an issue where the Crank shaft pulley flew off and caused the seal to leak, had to replace the seal a few times due to either pushing the seal in too far or the actual seal being sucked in. Anyway, thats all sorted but now I have a permanent fault where it wont start at all, I can get it start straight away with Engine start spray, sprayed into the air intake and it fires straight away.
If I start normally it doesn't go at all. Once started it drives lovely with no issues, but if I drive it for 30 mins and then stop and straight away try to start again it wont start.
I have replaced the Crank Shaft sensor.
I have checked the HP sensor seals and all look good.
Voltages and continuity have been checked and all seem fine (Fuel flow sensor 0.5v when trying to start and 1V at tick over, 12V on the glow plugs etc). All voltages and resistance measurements were taken from this forum (sorry cant remember which post, got to get better at recording this posts).
Fuel is getting through as fuel is coming out of the injectors if you take the pipes off.
Glow plugs all glow red when taken out of the vehicle and plugged in with ignition on.
Low pressure pump spinning up and stops after about 1 minute (seems a bit long).
Cam Shaft sensor was tested and seemed OK, cant remember measurements now as it was over a week ago.
I am at my wits end now and if any of you have any ideas then I will welcome them, if you guys can then great and thanks for reading this post.
Thanks
Simon
