My td4 Freelander 1 broke down about 4 weeks ago. It started juddering while driving then cutting out. It would start straight away but do the same again minutes later. It decided to just cut out all together and not start. The garage said it was ECU as no faults were coming up. They said they fixed that but on my way to work the same night it did exactly the same and will not start. The garage have had it 3 more weeks now and no wiser. The car land rover starts now but cuts out when it warms up. Can anyone help me out with this or recommend someone in the North West area (Preston) Thanks in advance.

My initial thought was a crank position sensor, but presumably that would throw a fault.

Maybe its the ignition switch, they do fail intermittently and cut the engine - the actual switch on the end of the ignition barrel. Does everything die or just the engine? Not sure how expensive/cheap they are but I think they are very quick/simple to replace.

Low pressure fuel pump, or rail sensor not giving a correct signal.

They are morons then. There's loads of potential faults, which don't give codes, but that doesn't mean it's the EDC.

What did they do to fix it? Not replace the EDC I hope.

Sounds like potential corrosion on the rail sensor plug to me, but it's difficult to tell without looking at the vehicle. :(
