Good day to Everyone

I hope all is well today

I am new to the Landy world but I have always had a love for them. I recently got a 2001 1.8 Freelander and I love it. I know there is a lot of comments on these landys but I love mine I want to get it sorted out.

The problem I have now is a misfire issue and the engine light starts flashing. Below is a list of what I have done so far.. any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Changed Coils and leads
Installed new fuel pump
installed new plugs
Scanner codes that I get are P0171 P0302 P0300 P0313

Once again any advice will be appreciated

Regards
Arno

With those codes, I'd guess you have low fuel pressure or an air leak into the intake manifold, or maybe even a failing O2 sensors.
Fuel pressure should be around 50

Psi, or the ECU can't compensate.

Look for air leaks in the induction system (spray WD40 and listen for engine note changes).

For O2 sensor testing, use an OBD2 device showing live data for the O2 sensor.

Hello Nodge68

Thank you for the reply..

I am checking for leaks today.. I have replaced the fuel pump due to the old one failing... so I know it not the pump.

My next step will be to check the injectors..

My next step will be to check the injectors..

Unless you allowed dirt to enter the fuel lines, the injectors won't be at fault, as you have a P0171 code, which means random misfiring on all cylinders. So the fault is something affecting all cylinders, hence the fuel pressure, air leak or O2 sensor. ;)

Oh yeah..

Did the spray test with carb cleaner and nothing changed in engine tone...
emptied almost a whole can around the intake and surrounding pipes

Hi Nodge.. I will inspect fuel line and pressure as well...

I see the manual suggest a 72ah battery.. Mine has a 53ah battery.. Could that cause anything?

Random misfiring is normally down to fuelling issues.

The battery is a little small, but I'd doubt it's the cause of the problem. It's worth checking the alternator main cable is clear of the exhaust, as it's possible for it to touch the exhaust and melt the insulation, causing all sorts of odd problems.

That will not be an easy job, I could be wrong but to get there you need to remove the ird and gearbox and then the flywheel... If that is the one you refer to.
Otherwise, on the camshaft side there is the oil pump for which there are kits to replace the seals. Still, cambelt needs to be removed and that small sprocket may be a nightmare to pull out without proper tools.

Hi guys

I did a proper clean on the IAC and now tge Landy drives better without the misfiring...

When I do a scan I'm still getting error P0170 and seems to be a bit heavier on fuel....

That is fuel trim being upset. If it is running rich then check of o2 sensor using obd and torque app would get my vote. Read aforementioned thread on how to do this and what to look for.

Hello Gents

Hope all is well

I have managed to change the front crank seal on my Landy with the help of a home made locking tool for the flywheel...
The question I have now is how do I line up the cambelt? It's seems to be running a bit close to the front of the pulleys...

Regards

There was a Freelander advertised on a forecourt here recently - which is very unusual, so I went and had a look. It was a 1.8 and when I gets there, there's various bits stripped off the engine. When I spoke to the bloke about it he said that the belt had been replaced at some point and it hadn't been lined up properly and the bottom pulley was shot. He showed me it and it looked like it was severely worn down on the outside edge. Not sure how the pulley would wear rather than the belt, but that's what it looks like had happened.
