Just bought a 53 plate Freelander TD4 and it appears the rain comes in through the aerial point in the roof - it's leaking through into the lights in the ceiling inside, immediately below the aerial. It then drips down onto the central console, on top of the handbrake and gear stick part.

Am I right in thinking the leak is from the aerial (I can move it) and if so, is there anything that can be done?

My apologies if this has been asked before, but I've searched the forum and can't find anything like this (most leaks are either sunroof, which mine doesn't have, or windscreen sealant, and this is coming from the wrong place).

Any help/advice gratefully received, thanks.

Oh, and I also apologise if this is in the wrong thread.

Hi, as you have just joined you will not be aware that this section is for requests for assistance if you have broken down in the middle of nowhere or are stuck up a mountain after being a bit silly and going where you shouldn't have gone.

You need to post this question if the Freelander Section here: https://www.landyzone.co.uk/forum/land-rover-freelander.9/

It is probably an issue with the seal for the aerial base. See this LR Bulletin...

http://www.myfreelander.co.uk/Body/bodyprobs7.htm

I've had a quick look. Not sure if you can get the seal by itself or whether it comes with a replacement aerial base (you would think it would), but the part number for the base looks to be XUC100832. They're not very expensive, you could contact a supplier to see if it comes with a new seal.

The fact that you can move the base suggests the nut isn't tight. Pull the interior light out of the headlining and you'll see the aerial base fixing nut. Tighten it a few turns until the base is held tightly against the roof and your leak should go away. ;)

I had a 04 plate 3 door that leaked in through the ariel. possible car wash brush damage.
used to set the alarm off when it rained when I took the ariel off it had bent the roof slightly.
so I straightened roof best I could .filled under ariel with grease and tightened it back up.
hey presto no more leak . then sold the car.no more problem.lol.

Three very different solutions. :)

Thanks all, I'll try the tightening one first, then the grease one (I'll probably wind up doing both, just to make sure).

Does the internal light come off easily? I'm wary of snapping it, which with my luck I probably will.

I think the lens comes off first if I remember rightly.then possibly two screws holding unit to roof .
may be wrong was a while ago.
